Q: How does Un-Rust-It Rust Remover compare to other rust removers?
A: The Un-Rust-It Industrial concentrate is similar to the other rust removers in the mechanism to remove the rust, they both use chelant technology to remove the rust. The other important feature of the Un-Rust-It is concentrated and requires water to activate the chemistry. Our 10% concentrate in 90% water is stronger than other rust removers in removing rust.
Q: Is the Un-Rust-It Industrial Concentrate similar to the other rust removers?
A: The Industrial Concentrate works the same as the Un-Rust-It except it is very concentrated and you must add water to it before you use it.
Q: How do you use the Un-Rust-It Concentrate?
A: The Concentrate must be diluted prior to use. It can be used in immersion or continuous spray applications. You can't just spray onto the part and let stand, it must continuously be sprayed onto the part until the rust is gone.
Q: Does water quality effect the performance of the Rust Removers when added to the concentrate?
A: It is always best to use distilled, softened or other treated water. But you can use your tap water or any potable. The hardness in waters in certain areas are extremely high and the hardness may deplete some of the activity of the chelants, surfactants, etc.
Q: Does temperature of the fluid effect the rate of rust removal?
A: Un-Rust-It rust removers can be heated up to 150 F and this will greatly accelerate the rust removal process. Note: If you place large cold cast iron/steel parts into a hot bath, the temperature of the part will have to come up prior to accelerated rust removal.
Q: What %'age should the industrial concentrate be mixed at to work properly?
A: The industrial concentrate mixed at 10% is equivalent to the other rust removers as they sell it to the public. 10% works well for light to heavy rust and/or one time use. We recommend using 20% if you plan to re-use the fluids or if you have heavy rust.
Q: Can water be added directly into the industrial concentrate?
A: Yes. Water mixes very easily with the concentrate. If you use it immediately afterwards, use hot water to accelerate the rust removal process.
Q: How do you know when the Un-Rust-It is used up?
A: The solution will turn pitch black, non-translucent and stops working.
Q: Why would you purchase the industrial concentrate over the competitors?
A: The industrial concentrate mixed at 10% is equivalent to the other rust removers as they sell it to the public. 10% works well for light rust and/or one time use. We recommend using 20% if you plan to re-use the fluids or if you have heavy rust. Save money with concentrate.
Q: Does Un-Rust-It at 10% remove the same amount of rust as other rust removers?
A: Un-Rust-It RTU will remove approximately 1.5x as much as other rust removers, based on side-by-side rust removal testing.
Q: Does other rust removers offer anything more than Un-Rust-It Rust Remover?
A: Not at all! In fact, Un-Rust-It will remove rust, black oxide and brighten copper/brass and is much less expensive.
Q: Does Un-Rust-It deteriorate plastics, rubbers, paints or surfaces of the metals?
A: Un-Rust-It has not deteriorate any plastics, rubbers, paints to date. It should be noted that using Un-Rust-It on polished high carbon steels may cause a slight discoloring of the metal. Also, on some high carbon metals, a black colored carbon like material might be left on the surface after the rust removing process. This can be removed easily if it is not allowed to dry and you use Metal Kleener 0001 or similar product.
Q: Will Un-Rust-It work on removing rust on insides of gas tanks?
A: Yes! Remove any gas from tank, wash with Metal Kleener 0001 or similar non-caustic detergent, rinse and pour in 10% (20% if extreme rust). Let stand until rust has been removed and rinse. Un-Rust-It can be re-use if its not dark black in color. Adding isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) into the tank and swishing around and pouring out will remove any left over water. Leave tank open to dry the insides. You can find isopropyl alcohol at most drug stores.
Q: How do you dispose of the spent Un-Rust-It Rust Remover?
A: Our Rust Remover is non-hazardous and should be disposed of according to local disposal regulations.
Q: How do I remove rust from parts that can not fit into a bucket or other container?
A: One of the best ways is to use a tarp, bucket, small immersible pump, garden hose and a sprayer. Drape the tarp under your part and fasten it so it will flow the water into a bucket. Install the pump in the bucket and half fill the bucket with Un-Rust-It Rust Remover. Suspend the sprayer end so that it sprays solution onto the parts that you want clean. The spray water will be collected by the tarp and re-directed back into the bucket to recirculate back onto the part. You may have to relocate the sprayer to cover all areas.
